In Justice Court, prosecutors linked Tom Hanley to the Bramlet slaying by revealing a box found in Phoenix contained Bramlet's coat and plaid slacks the day he disappeared. The box also held scissors, a torn T shirt, matches and gum. Hanley and his son Gramby face extradition. Wen dy Hanley remains jailed on bail.
The Junior Prom Queen of Valley High School Cindy Welch a 16 year old was killed when struck in the head by lightning while riding in the back of a pickup during a sudden thunderstorm on State Highway 41 and Three Kids Mine. Several companions escaped injury as power outages followed across Las Vegas with outages and damaged lines, substations and several major circuits taken offline. Local utility crews worked overnight to restore service and clear downed lines.
The SUN apologizes for an incorrect UPI story and clarifies Hector Serrano was released from Nevada State Prison where he served time for murder. The newspaper regrets any embarrassment or ridicule caused to Serrano and his family.

After a four day lockdown at the Nevada Maximum Security Prison 448 inmates were allowed out of their cells. Warden Charles Wolff cited rising tension and assaults on inmates and officers and said controlled housing was used for agitators. Overnight meals were served in cells with no visitors initially.
Henry Luis 55 of Boulder Highway died from heart failure amid a struggle with patron Joan Ciocan 31 at Union Plaza. Ciocan was booked on open murder, disorderly conduct, and destruction of police property after repeated attempts to escape handcuffs and damage.
Washington officials said the State Department urges Vesco's extradition from Costa Rica, with Justice Department authority cited. They note prior failed attempts in the Bahamas (1972) and Costa Rica (1973) while Vesco, indicted in 1972 for a secret 200000 dollar contribution to Nixon's re election campaign, remains a fugitive.
Turkish Ambassador to the Vatican Taha Carim 63 was shot as he left his Rome residence and died six hours after surgery at Polyclinic. A gunman in a dark suit fired twice injuring him in the face and left shoulder. This follows the earlier killings of Turkish diplomats in Beirut Vienna and Paris.
