A pair of fires in two small hotels in the upper Great Plains killed ten guests and left six hospitalized. In Cokato Minnesota the Cokato Hotel fire claimed five elderly victims and one missing guest, while six others were treated in fair condition. In Devils Lake North Dakota the Colonial Hotel blaze killed six, with residents on roof or windows awaiting rescue. Fire Chief William Oehike reported no serious injuries beyond the fatalities.
