UPI reports North Vietnamese troops using nine Russian T34 tanks attacked the Lang Vei Special Forces camp two miles from Laos. Fighting raged with U S officials saying armor was used for the first time in South Vietnam. At least five tanks were knocked out as the clash continued.

Clark County Authority approves pursuing Las Vegas as the Miss Universe Pageant host in 1969. The board directs Las Vegas Convention Center to notify hotel groups of the strong interest and seek cooperation from the industry. The Miami pageant group had previously shown interest in relocation.
Carson City UPI reports the 1968 Nevada Legislature heard State Budget Director Howard Barrett say the state can spend 2.6 million requested by Governor Laxalt and still maintain a 4 million cash balance by June 30 1969. Senator Floyd Lamb and others voiced concern about a potential financial pinch amid skepticism from lawmakers.
A 27 year old man used a gun to force the entry at 3915 W Silver Dollar St in Las Vegas and escape with 3477 after the bookkeeper Gladys Jaques turned over the money at 5 10 pm. The weapon was described as a small caliber handgun.
The Clark County Board of Equalization apologizes for sending out incorrect notices that raised taxes for three companies and several individuals seeking reductions. The board has faced attendance issues for years, with North Las Vegas Mayor William Taylor leading the appeals panel this year.

Public Health Service reports investigation underway from California to Wisconsin after radium and beryllium neutron sources valued at 1300 dollars were stolen from a shipment. The sealed cylinders could burn skin if carried in a pocket. The package was opened and resealed to hide the theft, and United Air Lines checks San Francisco Chicago and Milwaukee facilities with Geiger counters.
