California peace walkers jailed for Christmas Eve protest at Nevada Test Site
Two Committee for Non-Violent Action West members sat in front of the Nevada Test Site on Christmas Eve and were jailed in Tonopah after refusing to move. Dean Plagowski and Kenneth Kingsley each received sentences of 60 days or 15 days hard labor. The group aims to urge atomic workers and Americans to oppose institutions of global destruction and to build nonviolent defense alternatives. Spokesmen say the act was civil disobedience and that participants accept personal risk for their cause.
