County seeks legal path to fund We Care Foundation
County fathers plan to continue aiding the We Care Foundation into the new year while complying with legal rules. We Care, formed in 1960 to aid rehabilitating women alcoholics, offers food shelter counseling and access to AA programs. Last year the county gave 6000 but declined a similar request for 1969 as not legally correct. District Attorney George Franklin says contracts are needed for amounts over 1000 and bidding if multiple agencies. We Care was subsidized in 1962 on a temporary basis at 1800 to 2100 annually with later increases granted by the county commission.

Maintenance Concerns Highlight District Shortfalls
A Clark County School District report by Davis McConnell and Ralston finds interior and exterior school maintenance inadequate. With 321 maintenance staff, staffing ratios yield marginal care and exterior upkeep remains low, including cleaning tasks. Associate Superintendent Ken Quinn cites funding as the root issue, noting a request for 80 extra custodians was unfunded.
