Nevada gets special grand jury for long term mob probes
A special 2 percent member grand jury was empaneled in U S District Court to investigate organized crime and racketeering in southern Nevada. Geoffry Anderson, the new Strike Force attorney, said the panel will run under the Omnibus Crime and Control Act of 1970 and may serve up to 18 months plus an additional extension if needed. The jury draws from registered voters and its meeting date has not yet been set. Anderson, formerly of the Detroit Strike Force, has led probes into mob activity at the Aladdin Hotel and bombings at two Las Vegas supper clubs.
