SUN Name Case Dismisses Parents Claims In Las Vegas
District Court Judge Howard Babcock dismissed parents Lloyd and Florence Leany and Douglas and Carolyn Nelson from a Las Vegas SUN lawsuit, leaving only Scott Leany and Terry Nelson seeking damages over 10 000. Testimony included a heated exchange between Hank Greenspun and the plaintiffs attorney as the case centered on a 1974 crime story naming two 14 year olds. The judge ruled the parents’ privacy rights were not violated under Nevada law and found no invasion of the parent child relationship. The Nelson charge was dismissed while Leany received probation for his role. Greenspun acknowledged printing minors names but said SUN policy avoids it and defended the paper’s actions.
