Silica Sand Asset Boosts Nevada Industry
Nevada Silica Sand Company owned by Mrs. Mayme Stocker of Las Vegas and assisted by her sons Harold and Clarence Stocker shows growing impact. Started in 1935, the Moapa valley plant began operations December 26 1935 with first sand shipped January 2 1936. Monthly shipments average 40 carloads of 50 to 60 tons. In 1937 more than 350 carloads shipped. Product feeds Los Angeles and San Francisco glass manufacturers for bottles jars and clear containers. A lower grade red sand serves brown glass. Los Angeles hosts major plants and freight to San Francisco area is high. Despite tariff-driven price drop on imported Belgium sand the company profits on high quality product. The operation sustains about 14 to 20 workers with payroll around 2000 monthly and total monthly cash outlays 4000 to 4500. Plant sits at Stocker's siding nicknamed Glassand about 4 1/2 miles from the deposit, with drag-line handling at the quarry. (Continued on Page 12)

Wildcats Honored by Kiwanians and Rotarians Dinner
Las Vegas high school Wildcats football team received a dinner in their honor at the Methodist church. Two clubs, Las Vegas Kiwanis and Rotarians, hosted 32 and 23 members respectively plus the Wildcats. Coach Harvey Stanford was absent due to illness. Dr. Clare Woodbury served as toastmaster guiding a program, with the Ladies' Aid serving the meal to all attendees.

Jondahl Wins Damage Suit Over Dog Attack
Dan Jondahl was awarded $300 in attorney fees and $35 in court costs by Judge Orr in district court after suing Dewey Williams over a dog said to kill Jondahl's valuable chickens. Williams appealed the case. in justice court Jondahl received $250 plus attorney fees and costs.

Rotary Club In Short Meeting Honors December Birthday Rotarians
Las Vegas Rotary Club held a brief noon session to permit absent members to make up attendance. Cy Wengert James Cashman and Stanley Arnot, all December birthdays, were toasted with a pink birthday cake after contributing five cents per year of age to the charity fund. The club, begun in 1923, heard reminiscences from elder Rotarians including Wengert Pike Ferron Lawson Bracken Park Squires. A December 23 Christmas party was announced.
