Dr J D Smith a prominent Las Vegas dentist suffered burns to the face but escaped serious injury when an oil furnace exploded in his basement at 624 South Sixth Street last Tuesday evening. He shut off the feed, firemen controlled the blaze, and the family moved to a temporary Pike apartment while repairs are made.
Ruth Etting former wife of Colonel Snyder now on trial in Los Angeles for allegedly killing a rival in her affections wed Myrl Alderman in Judge Orr's chamber in a Wednesday morning ceremony. Rev C H Sloan officiated with Edith Snyder Nick Castro and Walter Quinton among the wedding party traveling from Los Angeles by chartered plane.
Mrs L F Corrington of North Las Vegas died at Las Vegas hospital after a heart attack Monday night. The body was sent to Glendale California by Garrison mortuary for interment. She is survived by her husband and a young daughter Mona.
Mrs Gertrude Goumond wife of P J Goumond dies at home after months of illness. She moved from Reno to Las Vegas in 1928 and was remembered as brave gentle and unassuming. Her son Harold died earlier she leaves two sisters a daughter in law and a granddaughter. Funeral held at St Joan of Arc with pallbearers named. She is laid to rest at Woodlawn cemetery.
The manslaughter charges against Thomas Kaufman of Boulder City were dismissed after an auto accident on the Boulder highway last June. The crash killed Horace Ray. William O’Hara Jr. of Boulder City pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and paid a $800 fine.
