Tom Connolly, chairman of the Commun ity Christmas fund finance committee, reports only 375 collected of 1300 needed. He urges organizations to send in contributions and asks the public to give liberally so that all needy, especially children, may have a Merry Christmas. Without help there will be bitter want and disappointment in Las Vegas this Christmas.
Hull-Kaymo company president M. O. C. Hull announced at a Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce meeting that a boat plant will be built here with an annual capacity of about 100 boats. Models include 16 foot silent electric fishing boats 21 foot power runabouts and 25 foot cabin cruisers with other lengths up to 60 feet on order. Hull noted desert climate wood seasoning advantages and urged forming a local yacht club to leverage the lake as a regional asset attracting residents and non residents alike.
Charles Mostyn Owen longtime rose rancher and writer died quietly at his Las Vegas home Friday morning He founded Armagosa Rose Ranch on Salt Lake Highway and gave away his roses He traveled and spoke of his experiences and was a former Salt Lake City Mason He leaves a sister in Oxford England and funeral services were held at Palm Funeral Home Interment planned per his wishes
William E. Gore elected chancellor commander to head the re established Knights of Pythias lodge in Las Vegas. R G Lewis vice chancellor Harold Parsons prelate and other officers elected with initiation set for January 2. Two candidates Clement A Malone and Henry A Harris of Boulder City advanced to Knight degree.
The Past Matrons of the Order of the Eastern Star were prominent at the Southgate chapter meeting last Monday evening. Worthy Matron Wilma Van Eaton presided over the business session as they occupied chairs at the opening and closing of the chapter.
William E. Fitzgerald was chosen high priest at the Royal Arch Masons election held last week. K. O. Knudson was named king, H. C. Garrison scribe, G. S. Day treasurer, and S. C. Scott secretary. Installation occurred Thursday night December 15 at the Masonic Temple.
Herb Harris former president of the old Rotary Second District spoke at the Las Vegas club. He recalled his 1928 river visit and dam tour and noted his travels to Rotarians across states and nations. He warned that the world faces a great crisis challenging Rotary ideals of service and international peace.
Alvin Adams president of Western Air Express and Tom Wolfe vice‑president met Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce leaders Tuesday. They supported a yacht club and praised local officials for cooperation while fielding talks on a municipal airport and retaining an air terminal near Las Vegas. Attending were Bob Griffith Bob Kaltenborn Mayor H P Marble A E Cahlan James Cashman George Hanson Harold Stocker and C P Squires.
