Errors in Maps Shift Texas County Lines Over 50 Square Miles
Errors in General Land Office maps discovered in 1914 shifted the Pecos Brewster county boundary by about fifty square miles, with Pecos suing to regain the land. The line runs from the mouth of San Francisco Creek to Barillo Springs, but a map adjustment moved the creek mouth fifty miles downstream, some land now shown as in Mexico. The land commissioner has no stake in the suit, which will decide tax collection rights.
