Japan Seizes Vladivostok in Siberian Coup
The Japanese bolt into Vladivostok and key Maritime Province towns, establishing a buffer state against Bolshevik Russia. In Nikolsk heavy fighting leaves about 200 Russians killed and 200 wounded, while Japanese losses run to 42 killed and 81 wounded. The Russian army corps at Nikolsk, led by Andreyeff, fought delaying actions but was overwhelmed as Japanese forces under Major General Odagiri advance rapidly.
