A Maryland town report describes moonshiners and bootleggers joining in a Christmas night attack on a church injuring four congregants, including two women. It calls for clean up in the area and ties violence to enforcement struggles with prohibition and alien residents, urging community self protection and tougher penalties for reckless driving and liquor violations.
A Louisiana incident left a three year old boy gravely injured when a car carrying three men struck him and fled. The driver was later identified and shot by the child’s father, who remained at the hospital bedside. Authorities expect possible bond and potential acquittal if the driver dies.
Market outlook notes an overall crude price advance in Texas grades lifting conditions in the Laredo district. Mirando crude at 50 to 55 cents a barrel is expected to rise soon as Texas price gains stimulate production and future drilling activity intensifies in Webb Zapata and Jim Hogg counties. Magnolia Petroleum expands tank capacity to 440000 barrels and plans new wells, aiming to lead Laredo district production next year.
L. M. Oakley was arrested in this city on three cases of passing forged instruments. He had an examining trial yesterday and was held to the grand jury in bail of 300 dollars for each case.
In Web county on survey 335 near the Carolina-Texas gas wells the Morgan-Gibble drill aims for oil or gas to perpetuate 13 000 acres of surrounding leases. If production comes before spring the leases continue with no annual rentals. failure could expire them and shift value to landowners or leaseholders. The Morgan-Gibble well stands at 1968 feet as casing is prepared, with 14 000 acres under watch by big and small oil interests.
A new arms shipment crossed the border to the Mexican federal government via the local customs house yesterday afternoon. It consisted of 400 .45 caliber pistols and 500000 rounds of .45 caliber cartridges.
Mrs. R. W. Belden expresses heartfelt thanks to kind friends who aided during illness and death of her husband R. W. Belden. She notes flowers and funeral assistance received from those friends.

For the first time the Rio Grande and Eagle Pass Railway Co. operates express service between Laredo and the Minera mines. The service, installed with American Railway Express, will greatly cut costs for farmers shipping spinach and other vegetables and goods.
The Kiwanis Club met at the Hamilton Hotel at 12 15 PM with nearly full attendance. Guests included Miss Dorothy Derby and Major E J Dwan. New member W B Hamilton welcomed. Jim Graves reviewed the year. officers for the year were elected: Sam Brown vice president J H Zachary treasurer Alden Muller secretary Claude Hamilton district trustee. The meeting closed with patriotic singing.
Miss Alma Scratchley and Miss Maxine Taylor, of the Laredo post office international money order department, leave to install the service in El Paso. They will train local clerks for about a month as El Paso becomes an international money order office from January 1. The two offices will handle Mexico-US transactions, each serving the nearest Mexican territory. Also noted is the Royal Theater’s New Year feature, Norma Talmadge in Ashes of Vengeance, showing January 1–3.
After the holidays, committees for Washington birth day events in Laredo plan to begin active work next week. Some groups have already started tasks while others wait. additional committees will be named after New Year’s Day and a tentative program will soon be outlined for a three to four day celebration.
