An explosion heard for miles shook San Bernardino California as dynamite under a Santa Fe stock car detonated beneath its wheel. Authorities estimate about 60 sticks were used. No real damage or injuries were reported.

Groesbeck of Michigan led the Republican governor’s race by about two to one. Vermont’s Proctor defeated E A Yoot for the governorship. In South Carolina, Cole Blease was defeated by Thomas G. McLeod for the Democratic nomination. Arizona candidates Ward and Hunt claimed victory in their party’s gubernatorial race. Massachusetts also reflected a decisive Republican result with Cox enjoying a sizable victory. William A. Gaston led the Democratic governor race in Massachusetts.
