Tom Slaughter, a 26 year old bandit under death sentence for killing a guard, escaped from the Little Rock penitentiary with six convicts after seizing guards, locking them in cells, and commandeering the warden’s car. Authorities from several counties pursue the group, while four death convicts remained in their cells and six others fled in a san autions vehicle. The escape followed Slaughter arming himself with a revolver smuggled to him and holding the warden and guards at bay for hours.
The state Board of Taxation telegram directed Promont County to levy one mill for a property oil lands to aid the state university. The county commission has not set the levy yet and the amount is not fixed, but the estimate for Promont County is about 49000 dollars.
An Amockited Press item notes independents announce a new opening plan beginning January 8. It mentions a wage relief proposal of about five cents for workers and hints at a broader operation under a cooperative or open shop stance.
The Senate committee investigating Georgia Senator Watson's charges about soldiers being hanged in France clashed as Watson threatened to slap an army officer.
