Fragmented 19th century verse and political convention text
A damaged OCR sample mixes romantic poetry stanzas with a Union State Convention report. It references Gen R B Hayes for Governor and Gen Phil Sheridan, quotes speakers, and describes the convention at the Atheneum with delegates present and a call to order by General Cowan.

Ohio Republican Convention nominates Hayes for Governor
In Columbus the Republican Convention nominated Gen. Rutherford B. Hayes for Governor after roll calls and ballots. Gen. Cowan and Gen. Galloway also received support before final nominations, with Hayes securing a majority on the first ballot and accepting via delegate remarks. The platform endorsed impartial manhood suffrage and loyalty to Sheridan, Cox, and state unity, while praising Union troops and vowing support for Reconstruction policies.
