Laments over sacred kingship, angels, and Prophetic visions intertwine with references to a hillside, marble arches, and a commentator noting the incalculable grace of God. The text blends ornate imagery with a lament for earthly honors.
The Military Commission chaired by Major General David Hunter sentences David B. Harrold, George A. Alsorott, Lewin Payne, and Ath. KE. Sureaut for treasonous acts and conspiracy with Edward Spangler and others. Harrold and Alsorott are sentenced to hang. Payne and Sureaut receive death by hanging. President to set time and place. two-thirds consent required.
The President approves sentences in the Lincoln assassination cases. Mary Surratt and others are to be executed on a July 1866 date by military authority, with hard labor or imprisonment as applicable. The report covers preparations, clergy assignments, and the planned scaffold at the old Penitentiary.
