Merger Move Announced By NEBA Directors

After a four month study Northeastern Breeders Assn directors recommend merger to member stockholders. The plan would form a farmer owned cooperative including NEBA and Maine Breeding Cooperative Augusta Maine New Hampshire Vermont Breeding Association Concord New Hampshire Central Vermont Breeding Association Montpelier.

Lancaster county announces 1965 corn support price

The Lancaster County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation office sets 1965 corn price support at $1.23 per bushel for No. 3 and No. 4 grades. National average is $1.05. Discounts apply to other grades. Price support available only to farmers in the 1965 feed grain program.

Swine Assn Carcass Show Set For Sept 23

Lancaster County Swine Producers Association announces a carcass show and evaluation contest at Lampeter Fair on September 23 at 6:30 PM. Exhibitors must be junior or senior members, hogs weigh 190 to 220 pounds, entries may be either boars or gilts, and non competing hogs will be slaughtered and evaluated.

Donegal High School Drops Vocational Agriculture Department

The Donegal Union School District announced immediate discontinuation of the Vocational Agriculture Department at Donegal High School. The Witness Oak Chapter of Future Farmers of America is also discontinued. students will attend neighboring high schools. Nine Lancaster County high schools now offer the course in vocational agriculture.

Spuds Main Crop For Diversified Farmer Reid Wissler of Ephrata Area

Reid Wissler farms 109 acres near Akron with 46 acres in potatoes, a key crop since 1952. The 1964 Lancaster County potato crop valued just under $2 million placed the county third in the state. Wissler built a 36 by 116 foot storage building beside Route 222 to store and grade potatoes indoors, insulated and earth-banked for steady temperatures, with 45 degrees target for chip potatoes.

Banks Lead Farm Lending in Pennsylvania Says Survey

Pennsylvania banks were the largest farm lenders at the start of the year, with 252 million in loans, 7 percent above the prior year, according to the American Bankers Association survey cited by Stanley Musselman of Lancaster County Farmers National Bank. Production and mortgage loans were about evenly split.

Weber Ebersole merger plans announced in Pennsylvania hatcheries

Ebersole's Hatchery of Annville will merge with Weber's Hatchery Inc of Bowmansville. Weber's will expand and modernize to house all hatching equipment and serve customers in southeastern Pennsylvania. Ebersole, started in 1958, will become head of sales and service at Weber's. Weber's began in 1932 as a local farmer hatchery.

Five day outlook Saturday to Wednesday shows near normal highs near the mid to upper 70s and lows in the mid 50s. Weekend warmth gives way to cooler conditions Sunday with wet weather and precipitation total 4 inches or more likely as showers Sunday and mid week.
