Pennsylvania Broiler Output Dips Despite National Trend

Pennsylvania broiler production declines continue even as national supply remains steady. The Crop Reporting Service notes 1,130,000 day old chicks placed this week, up 1 percent from last week but 12 percent below the same week in 1971. Eggs for hatch are also weak at 1,802,000, down 5 to 11 percent across indicators. The 10 week average shows continued lag, while national placements stay modestly above year-ago levels. About 15 percent of Pennsylvania chick hatch is shipped out of state.
