USDA reps from Beltsville Maryland inspected tobacco disease damage and sucker control at Southeastern Field Laboratory Landisville. John Yocum reported suckers were hard to control in the wet season unless control material was applied promptly after topping. He added that one more rain could have sparked wildfire, but recent clear weather helped stop it.

All-American Dairy Show Set for Harrisburg
Next week Harrisburg hosts a five day international dairy event at the Farm Show Building. Lefever Brothers and Hiram Aungst register the top July Dairy Herd Improvement Association figures. Jane, a Registered Holstein owned by Lefever Brothers, Manheim, produced 20 719 pounds of milk and 818 pounds of butterfat with a 39 percent test on 305 days. Eva, owned by Henry W. Martin, Ephrata, yielded 17 454 pounds of milk and 807 pounds of butterfat with a 46 percent test in 305 days. The Elizabethtown herd of Hiram and Aungst posted the highest monthly butterfat average with 33 cows averaging 1 672 pounds of milk and 66 pounds of butterfat on a 4.0 percent test. The Eli S. King Gordonville and Robert F herds appear in the continuation.
