Amos H. Funk was elected president of the Pennsylvania Soil Conservation District Directors at a Reading meeting. He has led the Lancaster County Soil Conservation District for ten years and succeeds Charles Gillette of Townville Crawford County. Funk also serves as president of the Pennsylvania Vegetable Growers Association and the Conestoga Valley Association. Mary Jane Herr Wins Trip To Club Congress
Mary Jane Herr of Reston earned a state award and an expense paid trip to Chicago for the 41st National 4-H Club Congress. She is among 24 Pennsylvania 4-H members selected to represent the state at the November 24 to 29 event. Mary Jane started 4-H eight years ago with a steer and has since won 14 trophies in county district and state beef, strawberry and capon projects, plus clothing, food prep and leadership roles. Her 1955 show success included champion Hereford and reserve champion calf, and a manship trophy beating her brother Donald, now in veterinary school at Cornell.

Twenty Seven County Showmen Enter 78 Head In Stock Show

Egg cooperative signs lease for idle poultry plant
Producers Exchange with headquarters in Coatesville this week announced leasing the idle poultry dressing facilities to Dairy Sales Corporation for use as a butter processing plant around year start. The exchange said the board authorized rental of improved egg sizing and packaging gear including an electronic blood spot detector and scanner.
Farmers Invited To Help Harvest Co. Corn Plots
Lancaster County corn variety plots will be harvested next week and yields checked. Farmers and seedsmen are invited to visit two plots next Tuesday October 30 to assist with harvesting and yield checking according to Arnie Lueck assistant county agent.

USDA veterinarian Dr George L Smith told Lancaster stock yardsmen and farmers that officials expect Pennsylvania to be declared scabies free by January first after a second round of sheep treatment.
