Barn Fire Destroys Bell Farm Hay and Grain Supplies
Fire crews from six departments battled a blaze at Joseph Bell farm on Fairview Road near Lititz. The fire, caused by an electric heater, engulfed the upper barn and destroyed 3500 bales of hay 500 bushels of corn three tons of soybean meal and a weed sprayer. No cattle were inside. Richard Bell found the fire after returning from silage work and heard an explosion before seeing flames. The elder Bell reported the initial blast and rapid spread as alarms sounded.
