Scholarship Fund to Honor Arthur Young Named for PSU Farm Equipment Studies
The Pennsylvania Farm Equipment Dealers Association will establish a scholarship at Pennsylvania State University to study farm equipment retailing in memory of Arthur S. Young 66 a Lancaster County pioneer and longtime leader in the trade. The group will also donate 200 to Youngs Leacock Church. Young who died December 27 1955 built the Arthur S Young Co in 1921 and served as secretary treasurer of the state association for 16 years and as an elder at Leacock Presbyterian Church for 33 years. The association held its 43rd state convention at the Penn Worris Hotel in Harrisburg with about 350 dealers present. The theme was Lets Get Going. Dr Eric Walker president of PSU spoke on future resource use. Panel discussions covered management with Ralph Eby Lancaster attorney as panel head and Jeff Coates Akron as management consultant.

58 head of Angus steers were distributed to Red Rose 4H Baby Beef Club members at New Holland Sales Stables. The Angus steers, sourced from Pennsylvania Virginia Connecticut and New York, join 55 Commercial Herfords averaging 409 pounds and 12 Shorthorns at 436 pounds. State Farmers Count Livestock in Pennsylvania Census
Harrisburg reports that over 20 000 Pennsylvania farmers will report numbers of horses mules cattle milk cows hogs goats sheep chickens and turkeys as part of a yearly livestock census. Merle Groff of Lampeter Strasburg High School will join four other FFA contenders at the 1957 State Farm Show Safe Tractor Driving Contest. Groff, son of Mr and Mrs J Elvin Groff, earned his spot after placing fifth in the statewide run off at Penn State. The contest fields five FFA entrants and five 4H competitors with prizes of 25, 15, 10, 10, and 10 dollars.

Farm Auction Withdrawn At 306 Per Acre In Lancaster County
