County Hay Champion Puts First Batch On Dryer
Lancaster County's Galen Crouse, Alfalfa champion, began mowing the knee high stand on Wednesday and dried the first batch. A weevil invasion forced earlier than planned haymaking. He uses a hay crimper, rolled wind rows and baling started Thursday, with moisture loss by evening to save leaves.

Alfalfa Weevil Outbreak Hits Lancaster County Fields
A severe alfalfa weevil infestation devastates Lancaster County hay on about 40 000 acres. Penn State entomologist J. O. Pepper says the outbreak is the worst since 1953 and notes weevils may be building resistance to heptachlor and dieldrin after a field inspection with Arnold Lueck.

Yearling ewes from a San Angelo Texas feeding station crossed withHave rams to produce commercial lambs. The 4H County Council schedules a spring jamboree for all county 4H members at 7 30 p m May 29 at the Leola fire hall.
