Consumers Warned Against Bait and Switch Tactics
Joel Weisberg of the State Bureau of Consumer Protection warns against bait and switch schemes in which stores advertise low prices then push higher priced items. The bureau cites Harrisburg rug ads at 2.89 to 4.89 per sq yd with no goods, and Gold Bond Industries fined 15000 for pools advertised at 689 to lure buyers to pricier models. Weisberg urges shoppers to compare prices elsewhere and avoid stores that disparage advertised items.
