Above Normal Temperatures Continue for Pennsylvania
State Agriculture officials report above normal temperatures with little rainfall likely for the rest of the week. Unseasonably warm conditions brought fruit blossoms into full bloom and blossom trails are set for Adams and Berks counties. Corn and oats plantings resume, hay and pasture are improving, and spinach harvests proceed in the southeast while asparagus may reach markets next week.

Lancaster County swine producers organized the Lancaster County Swine Producers Assn at a Farm Bureau Cooperative meeting in Lancaster Tuesday night electing C Warren Leininger president Richard Maule as vice president and Harold Rohrer as treasurer Directors include Arlice Anderson Earl Fisher Harold Endslow Kenneth Skiles van Griek and Howard Sighn with terms set for three two and one year. Dwight Yankin Penn State swine specialist praised county grouping and outlined state and national programs while Grant Sherritt detailed meat type certification goals and gilt litter size strategies. Walter Dunlap Jr. of Lancaster Livestock Exchange and county agent Max M Smith presided. a film on swine production was shown.

Water soaked barley replaces corn in poultry feeding test
Scientist at Washington State College reports that treating barley by soaking in water or with an enzyme mixture yields growth and meat yield equal to or better than corn. Four week old chicks showed 190 pounds more gain per ton of feed with treated barley.

County Health Fair Opens In Lancaster

Northampton and Wayne counties joined 55 Pennsylvania counties certified brucellosis free by state and USDA authorities. Testing progress shows 75 percent of herd owners in remaining Lebanon and Bradford counties must sign for blood testing, with further counties already signed and testing expanding statewide. Wayne County dairies show a sharp decline in infection rates from 3.7 percent cattle and 16.3 percent herds in 1954 to 0.5 percent cattle and 0.5 percent herds today.
