Barbeque invited as Pennsylvania Broiler Week kicks off
Lancaster County hosts an invitational broiler barbecue on May 4 at the Lancaster Poultry Center with Mayor Kendig C Bare of Lancaster declaring Broiler Week. The Chicken of Tomorrow contest features nearly 700 entrants led by State Agricultural Secretary William L Henning who will award prizes including silver bowls and savings bonds.

Missouri Feeder Pig Sales Boost Small Producers
Ripley County hog farmers organized a 1950 feeder pig sale at Doniphan to secure better prices and demonstrate that good breeding and feeding pay. Since then, dozens of counties have adopted similar sales, with 10 counties hosting 25 sales and about 1,474 consigners selling nearly 50,000 pigs for around 630000 dollars.

Farm Credit Shows Increase From Year Ago
Agricultural credit in Lancaster County remains strong with about 59 000 dollars more borrowed this spring than last year.
