Raising Prime Veal For Aristocratic Restaurants In NYC

Roy Shultz his wife and son Charles run a Willow Street venture turning Holstein calves into prime veal for upscale New York restaurants. After early losses they refined feeding and temperature care and with Provimi Inc and Agway Inc now profit about 33 dollars per calf.

Worgan Addresses Local Sheep Flock Owners

Penn State livestock specialist Ben Worgan told county sheep farmers at the Farm and Home Center that ewe numbers are declining while beef cow numbers rise. He noted lamb income can exceed beef profits under current prices, emphasizing the impact of lamb crop percentage and the tradeoffs between one strong lamb and two lighter lambs.

Enrolment Tops 1 000 Farms In ASCS Programs

Enrollment in 1969 Wheat and Feed Grain programs ended March 21 with 1 002 Lancaster County farms enrolled. 361 in Feed Grain and 894 in Wheat. Growth over 1 568 last year includes 345 Feed Grain and 857 Wheat. Total diverted acres reach 4 665 from Feed Grain. Wheat allotment totals 9 589 acres with 990 diverted for payment. Advance payments of 42 124 issued, half of total payment.

Farmers Told To Work With His Neighbors

At the Lancaster County Waste Disposal Meeting, Milton Stanley of the Pennsylvania Department of Health urged farmers to cooperate with neighbors. The department will seek pacification and may require removal of manure piles that attract flies or harbor rats.

More than 350 farmers attended the Harrisburg gathering with Pennsylvania General Assembly members to discuss issues including the Frozen Dessert Law Milk Marketing Board and compulsory auto insurance A Warwick High School sophomore Gerald Martin won the Lancaster County FFA Public Speaking Contest with It's Your Life Martin had placed third in the County Contest and second in the Area Contest in 1968 Solanco won the County Parliamentary Procedure Contest and later the Area Contest in 1968 Nelson Weaver from New Holland High School was runner up in the local speaking contest

Averril Rover To Attend 4-H National Conference

Averril Rover 18 of 20253 Oregon Pike Lancaster was named one of five outstanding Commonwealth 4H members to participate in the 1969 National 4-H Conference April 2025 in Washington DC. The event brings together members from all 50 states to exchange 4-H ideas directions and reports, according to Jerry H Reyburn, assistant State 4-H leader.
