Community sales set new dairy and beef health rules

New regulations governing dairy and beef breeding cattle at community sales take effect to curb animal diseases including brucellosis. Rules require separate sale days for dairy and beef stock, separate dairy stables with cement floors and isolation pens, and cleaned, disinfected facilities with proper health certificates. Dr. H A Milo of the Bureau of Animal Industry notes the changes revise existing rules, not drastic, and aim to preserve Pennsylvania’s brucellosis free status and the $13 million state and federal investment. Compliance timelines are lenient, with enforcement warnings rather than immediate license loss.
