Some Spots in County Are Dry Combining Now

Migrant Worker Orientation Conference Underway

Sessions extended through today for the Migrant Worker Staff Orientation Conference in the Eastern Region. About 1,000 migrant workers to be employed in Lancaster County this summer familiarize themselves with activities. Meetings held at the Evangelical and Reformed Theological Seminary in Lancaster. Rev. Donald E. Smith leads. county chairman is Mrs. R Morris Weaver of Millersville.

Sixteen Sail for Germany Under Pax Program

Sixteen young men sailed Monday for Germany to begin alternative work programs in lieu of military service. Victor A. Olsen, former Mannheim Township resident, addressed the group Friday at the Mennonite Central Committee headquarters in Akron. A farewell service of consecration was held Sunday evening at Metzler's Mennonite Church.

Farmers Group Plans Cooperative Business Workshop

Four H and FFA members attended a Lancaster County meeting at the Farm Bureau Auditorium as a prelude to the 28th summer meeting of the American Institute of Cooperation in Raleigh. The event covered organizing farmers for business and included a tour of local cooperatives.

Wool incentive confusion persists among growers

Some wool growers misunderstand the incentive program, believing the government covers any shortfall between their sale price and the 62 cent incentive level. USDA reports note this misperception remains even as the incentive stands at 44.9 percent.

Transfer at Landisville July 1 official farm date noted

July 1 will be the official transfer date of the new Pennsylvania State University experimental farm north of Landisville where about 20 people toured small grain plots. Dr C S Bryner announced Dual winter wheat shows resistance to leaf rust and Hessian fly and higher yields in tests at University Park and Landisville.

Illinois peach crop outlook rises to 920000 bushels

The State Federal Crop Reporting Service in Springfield says this year’s peach crop in Illinois may reach 920000 bushels, well above last year’s yield, though the 1956 crop remains about 58 percent below the ten year average.
