Air Drop of Gypsy Moth Traps Begun
Three federal state agencies launch a joint experiment to stop Gypsy Moth spread in two areas of Pennsylvania. Traps three inches long baited with pheromone will be dropped at 3000 to 12000 per square mile in Rothrock State Forest and near the Somerset Bedford county line. The effort aims to disrupt mating using a new stronger attractant while remaining harmless to people and wildlife. Gypsy Moths threaten Pennsylvania forests after migrating from New England, defoliating large areas.
