Lancaster County farmers face crop and erosion losses running into millions after floods and rain. On July 5 at 7:30 p.m. Lancaster County Soil and Water Conservation District meets at Farm and Home Center, plus Red Rose 4-H Baby Beef and Lamb Club gathering. July 8 at 1 p.m. there is the Second Annual Wheat Harvest in Schaefferstown at 5 p.m.

Fire Destroys Root's Fire at Root's Country Market
A major blaze leveled the main complex of Root's Country Market and Auction between Manheim and East Petersburg, destroying 80 stands. Fire companies saved some buildings but hampered by no nearby hydrants and a single small pond water supply. Abram Root could not estimate damage and plans to reopen July 4 with outdoor tables for stallholders and customers.
