Local Girl Elected Advisor on 4-H Congress Leadership Council

Peggy Eshleman a 17 year old from Pequea was chosen as a Leadership Council advisor for next year’s 4-H Congress at Penn State. She was one of five statewide advisors elected by the Southeast Leadership Council.

Lancaster County Dairy Princess Contest Canceled

The Lancaster County Dairy Princess Contest is canceled for lack of entrants. Chair man Mrs Herbert Royer said two girls filed applications and the event scheduled for next Tuesday is called off. The contest began in 1964 but has drawn few contestants in recent years. If revived a local princess must be chosen before August 15 or Lancaster County will miss the state contest in Harrisburg this September.

4 H Livestock Judging Session Set For Monday

County Agent Max Smith announces the first practice session at 6 pm at the Farm and Home Center for 4 H Livestock Judging. Two four member teams will be chosen for the August state contest at Penn State with a junior team ages 14 to 16 and a senior team at least 14. Mark Nestleroth will co coach with Smith and four boys from last year’s senior team.

4 H Dairy Roundup Set For July 29 30

The annual 4H Dairy Roundup will be held July 29 30 in the Guernsey Sales Pavilion. Due to limited space the show is split into two parts with Ayrshire Brown Swiss Guernsey and Jersey cows shown on July 29 from 3 to 7 p m and Holsteins shown on July 30 during the same hours.

Local Dairymen Earn District Honors in 1969 Contest

Three local dairymen won district honors for the most outstanding Young Dairy Cooperator in 1969. Winners are Robert H. Kreider Quarryville District 3 Walter C Martin New Holland District 6 and J Mowery Frey Jr Lancaster District 7. Twenty one participants joined a program to select top young dairy farmers who are members of Inter State Milk Producers Cooperative.

Farm & Home Center Mortgage and Plans for Expansion

The Farm & Home Foundation directors reported a $67,000 fund drive on Tuesday, keeping the mortgage at $150,000. They will study converting basement space for extra offices as the County Superintendent of Schools may seek about 2200 additional square feet of office space.

Pullet Chick Placements Up 34 Percent in May 1969

Domestic placements of pullet chicks for broiler hatchery supply flocks totaled 4,046,000 in May 1969, a 34 percent rise from May 1968. Leading primary breeders reported the higher May totals, with continued data on the page.

Summer egg prices forecast above spring near 1968 levels

USDA predicts summer egg prices will be significantly above spring and near last year’s level with fall prices possibly below a year earlier. Broiler prices may soften slightly. May output rose above 1968 levels and replacement pullets raise the flock by early summer.
