Overseas Shipping Tests On Frozen Poultry Markets
USDA marketing researchers tested 30,000 pounds of frozen poultry shipped from Port Elizabeth New Jersey to Europe using van containers with built in refrigeration. The study tracked temperature control packaging efficiency costs and pilferage across Rotterdam Amsterdam Hamburg and Bremen with cooperation from the Institute of American Poultry Industries and Rockingham Poultry Marketing Cooperative. Results will indicate if van containers reduce handling losses and reveal practical packaging sizes and strapping needs for ocean transit.
