Paul Trimble of Quarryville R1 is the new state FFA treasurer and Clarence Bauman of Lancaster R7 is named state sentinel. Trimble, a 1962 Solanco High School graduate, runs a dairy and dairy-related farming program and has held multiple 4‑H and FFA offices. Bauman, a 19 year old graduate of Lampeter Strasburg, joins as state officer.

Twelve county agents from eastern states toured Garden Spot county en route from Gettysburg to Allentown. They stopped at Henry Rohrer’s Columbia R2 farm near Mountville to learn about his cattle feeding program which handles about 400 head annually and focuses on the broader farming goals beyond profit.

Seedbed Fungus Strikes County Tobacco Fields
Arnold Lueck Assistant County Agent reports damping off fungus attacked tobacco transplants in the county this spring after four to five days in the field. Moisture temperature conditions intensified the outbreak killing up to half the plants on some farms leading to recommendations of complete replanting if losses exceed 20 percent.
