June brings the selection of Dairy Princesses as girls graduate and consider becoming dairy ambassadors. A Dairy Princess represents the dairy industry and promotes milk while traveling, presenting ribbons at fairs and field days, attending banquets, and helping with open house programs.
A 1969 column compares space achievement to agricultural research and development. The author argues renewed support could boost food production and national capacity, noting public fascination with lunar efforts and the limitations of marketing to gain backing. Continued on page 9.
In February 1925 a small group of Guernsey breeders met in the Farm Bureau rooms at the call of the County Agent. They discussed forming a local Breeders Association with an Extension agent of the Eastern Guernsey Breeders Association present to outline activities.
Local dairymen share farm level ideas in a round table setting. Pennsylvania leads with 64 000 dairy animals and high per animal milk production. Lancaster County dairy herds contribute to a regional income of about 36 417 000 dollars annually.
The Lancaster County Holstein Association reports 534 members with officers led by Clarence Stauffer as president and Elvin Hess Jr as state director. A bus tour drew 146 members visiting farms and processing sites, while the District Breeders Institute met at the Farm & Home Center and a spring barn meeting occurred at the Robert Kaufman Farm.
