Oklahoma City market notes show Thursday receipts near 9000 with showers curtailing sales. Feeder steers over 500 lb and feeder heifers over 450 lb gained up to 50 cents, calves up about 50 cents to a dollar. Prices listed include 350-500 lb at 37.50 to 42.75 and 500-650 lb at 33.75 to 38.50, with a part load 520 lb at 39.00 and 650-750 lb's.
Beef prices showed varied moves with steers up to 25c and Holsteins down to 50c while cows and bulls held steady. Receipts offset weak wholesale beef demand as rail disruption created cautious buying. feeder activity remained steady amid light shipments and steady feeder prices for small lots.
Closing bids show Trend Cattle stronger while Hogs Potatoes and Eggs vary. Cattle up on July 29 while Hogs and Potatoes soften and Eggs rise, with prices provided by Reynolds and Company Commodity Dept.
Slaughter steers showed firmness to 50 cents higher for High Choice and Prime over 1150 pounds, with others steady to lower. Demand centered on top grades while average and below were less active. receipts included 80 percent steers and 17 percent heifers. Prime weights topped around 1350 pounds at 34.75, with highs for 1050 to 1350 pound heifers near 33.50. Cows and bulls moved unevenly, with utilities and commercial cattle in the 20s to upper 20s for cows and 25.50 to 28.00 for bulls.
The Chicago market will close due to dwindling receipts and market needs. Omaha and Oklahoma City markets will fill the gap as producers assess impact and adjust to decentralizing marketing away from Chicago.
