Lancaster County Soil and Water Conservation District plans a large Field Day and Plowing Contest with a surprise exhibit. The morning session starts about 9:30 am on July 26 with an archery demo and a fishing demonstration by the Fish Commission if pond levels permit.

Southeast District 4H Demonstration at Gwen J Roberts High Bucktown and Chester County. Twilight meeting at Atlantic Breeders Coop Route 230 By-Pass Lancaster. Dairy Princess Contest at York Towne Hotel July 20 and 21. 4H Citizenship Short Course in Washington DC and Farm Safety Week July 24–30.
Fultonway Rachel Ann a registered Holstein cow owned by J M Frey & Son reached half ton butterfat status after a 365 day lactation producing 26293 pounds milk 1016 pounds butterfat and 2171 pounds solids not fat She began lactation at nearly 8 years old and was milked twice daily The TNT program now records SNF for management use Rachel Ann was bred in the Frey herd and sired by Maplebead Dean King Posch VG a Gold Medal Sire candidate.
July 20 deadline set for 4H Dairy Club members planning to compete at the county roundup on August 23. Associate county agent Victor Plastow says entries must be filed at the extension office to be listed in the official catalog and urges submitted names even if registration papers are not yet complete. The show opens with Holsteins only at the Guernsey Sales Pavilion.
Carol Hess and William Houser topped Lancaster County public speaking contest at Penn Manor High School earning spots to compete next Tuesday at Owen J Roberts High School in Chester County. Hess spoke on education needs. Houser on how 4 H work builds good citizenship.
Lancaster County swine producers meet at Abram Zeiset farm East Fairlawn for the annual field day. Zeiser shows an 85 sow feeder pig operation with group breeding and farrowing to maintain steady pig supply. He participates in Pennsylvania Farmers Association electronic record keeping and collaborated with Penn State on hog data systems.
Judy Buckwalter and Marilyn Krantz were chosen as Lancaster County 4-H junior and senior queens from 59 competitors at Long Park. Buckwalter, 16, daughter of David and Mrs Buckwalter of Lititz, earning the Senior Crown after seven years in 4-H work.
