The index of prices paid by farmers fell to 184 from 194 in October 1975 levels, down 10 points or 5 percent from May, with soybeans at 2.09 per bushel and corn down 16 cents. Beef cattle figures also noted.
Severe storms hit Lebanon and Lancaster Counties injuring people and damaging property including two children struck by lightning in southern Lancaster. The GAO plans a survey to determine agricultural weather needs as part of efforts to upgrade farmer weather reporting.
In Lancaster County millers pay an average of 2.29 per bushel for wheat deliveries with bids from 2.10 to 2.36. Midwest prices run around 1.79 per bushel as transportation costs rise and carryovers reach their highest since 1963 amid a global wheat glut.
