York Resigns as Eastern Dairy Board General Manager

Arden ury president of Milk Producers Cooperative announced John C York’s resignation as general manager effective June 31 1977 at a Syracuse office meeting. Howard E McDonald of Auburn was named successor and the board expressed deep regret for York’s three decades of service.

Joyce Bupp and Sally Bair of Ke ysville Maryland were named top winners in an elition sponsored by ideal cooperatives of enamarva Dairymen's ration Inc. Judging occurred June 23 at the Hunt Valley Inn during a Federation meeting. Susan and Robert Kauffman Jr of Peach Bottom R2 were picked as 1977 Young Cooperator couple by Interstate Milk Producers Cooperative of Southampton PA.

Pennsylvania Holds First State Food Day

First state food day was held in Harrisburg as Governor Shapp signed a proclamation for National Food Day. About 200 representatives from farm church consumer and aging groups attended the ceremony with Secretary Kent Shelhamer present. The state has a history of food observances and international involvement dating to 1973 and 1974.

Barley harvest yields better than expected in Easter County

Barley harvest in Easter County nears completion with yields reported around 50 bushels per acre and some as high as 100, plus test weights of 43 to 46 pounds. Early wheat yields around 60 bushels per acre are appearing in the Elizabethtown area as weather may allow field work this weekend. Rain is forecast and cultivation could be delayed.

Kendace C Borry of Mount Joy R2 has been named associate editor of Lancaster Farming. She led 4 H projects including Shorthorn steer and grand champion capons, and now leads Saddle Cinches 4 H Horse Club. She grew beef sheep and horses on the Berry farm and worked as a crop enumerator for USDA.
