4 H Beeves at Farm Show Sell For 40089.06
Harrisburg reports the 125 4 H baby beeves sold Friday for 40089.06 total, averaging 29.56 cents per pound with 135580 pounds weighed. Open class steers totaled 26,675 pounds selling for 6452.02 at about 24.18 cents per pound. Numerous buyers from Susquehanna Frozen Food Center to Armour & Co. purchased steers and two-steer consignments were listed for multiple markets.

Champion Hereford Steer Brings 1639.37 At Harrisburg Show
The 1075-pound Hereford "Champ" won grand champion 4H baby beef at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg, selling for 1.52 a pound to Howard Johnson Restaurants. The total was 1639.37, shown by 14-year-old Harry Lee Hoar of Gap. Reserve grand champion Amos, a 1020-pound Angus, sold for 1.00 per pound totaling 1020 to Crystal Restaurant Reading. Other top 4-H entries include Margaret Ann Hoar's 1070-pound Shorthorn selling for 535 to Susquehanna Frozen Food Center, and Peggy Hackman's 1215-pound Hereford reserve champion sold at 36 cents per pound.

A winter storm brewing on the west Gulf Coast signals more snow for Lancaster County. Log Sawing Title At Farm Show to Millville Pair
Harrisburg John and Jacob Sult of Millville RD 2 Columbia County won by default in the Farm Show log sawing contest. Two other teams did not appear due to illness and injury. The Sults cut a 20 inch oak log in 51.2 seconds to thrill the crowd, while last year’s Farm Show record was 29.2 seconds set by the Kosanic brothers. Top prize was $25.
