Farm Women Elect Officers For 1965

The Society of Farm Women of Pennsylvania elected two new officers at its annual meeting. Mrs. Joseph Yanes of Douglasville Berks County was named treasurer, while Mrs. E. Robert Nolt of Meadow Spring Road Lancaster was chosen director. Other 1965 officers include Mrs. Elmo Mentzer of Carlisle Cumberland County as president and Mrs. Kenneth Staver of Palmyra as vice president.

The Lancaster County Poultry Association announces its annual meeting for January 21 at 7 45 p m at the Poultry Center on West Roseville Road Lancaster The program includes reports of past year activities presented by officers and management Plans will set policies for the coming year and seven directors will be elected to the Board of Directors.

65 Farm Show Highlights for Countians

The 49th Pennsylvania Farm Show finished its fourth day with 565000 attendees, above five year average though short of the 1963 record. Lancaster County fared well with tobacco wins and top placings in dairy swine and beef classes led by 15 year old John Welk’s 935 pound Corky Shorthorn steer and Robert Hosler’s reserve, as Showmanship saw Lancaster finish 2nd and 3rd in Hereford and Angus breeds and Larry Weaver claim 1965 Farm Show Showman title.

Farm and Home Center Drive Seeks Big Farm Group Support

Lancaster County campaign officials report growing backing for the Farm and Home Foundation aimed at raising 375000 for an agricultural center. A 500 strong volunteer canvass is staging two kickoff rallies January 25 in Lititz and January 27 in Strasburg to encourage pledges over 24 months from farm families and related businesses.

Five day forecast shows below normal temperatures and snow

Weather forecast through Saturday to Wednesday predicts average temperatures about 10 degrees below normal with a high near 39 and low around 23. Snow is expected over the weekend and again at period end, with total precipitation between 0.25 and 0.50 inches melted.
