Lancaster County Soil and Water Conservation District directors oppose President Johnsons proposed cuts to federal funding for soil and water conservation on private lands. They note two thirds of valuable agricultural land remains unprotected and cite long cooperative work since 1939 with the Soil Conservation Service and others. Directors contribute substantial volunteer time to educate farmers and promote practices, warning that charging for SCS services and lower ACP cost-sharing could end the district program.
