Arthur S Young dies prominent Lancaster Co farm equipment dealer

Arthur S Young 66 a pioneer Lancaster County farm equipment dealer from Kinzers and president of the Rough and Tumble Engineers Historical Association died at his desk Tuesday morning. He founded Arthur S Young Co in 1921 and served as secretary treasurer of the state dealers group. Funeral Friday at 1 30 p m from Brown Funeral Home Paradise to Leacock Presbyterian Church with burial at nearby cemetery. He leaves wife Luetta two daughters Jane Brackbill and Nancy Young and son C Everett Young.

Poultry Exchange Meet Set for January 17 1956

The second annual Poultry Exchange meeting will be held Tuesday January 17 1956 at 7 30 pm in the Elementary School at Rohrerstown. All members urged to attend. Members are those who used Exchange facilities for buying or selling poultry during the year.

Meat Output Reaches Record High in 1955

J Morrell Foster chairman of the Amercan Meat Institute reports 268 billion pounds of meat produced in 1955 and predicts 272 billion pounds for 1956. He notes per person consumption at about 161 pounds, driven by employment income and population growth, with no heavy stocks.

Queen Dairy Resumes Deliveries in County

Queen Dairy in Lancaster has resumed regular milk deliveries after a voluntary shutdown from December 6 to 23 due to a paratyphoid outbreak. Samples from December 21 processing were cleared of harmful organisms and deemed safe for consumption by the State Inspection Team led by Dr Oscar Davis and Elwood F Schaffer of the Agriculture Department.

December milk price forecast for New York area

Dr. A J Pollard forecasts December uniform price of 418 per hundredweight for milk deliveries to approved plants in the New York metropolitan area. The 1954 December price was 439 per hundredweight. Producers face a 5.4 cent differential per tenth of a pound above or below 3.5 percent butterfat.

Co Founder of Landis Valley Museum Dies

Henry K. Landis, 90, co founder of Lancaster County's Landis Valley Farm Museum, died Tuesday in a Lancaster hospital. He and brother George D. Landis built a premier collection on Pennsylvania and local culture, opening their home as a museum over 50 years ago before Commonwealth control.

Crop Production This Year Ranks Second Largest for U S

U S Department of Agriculture cites 1955 as the year of near record crop output, with crops only six tenths of one percent below 1948’s high while livestock production hits an all time peak. Corn total reaches 3.184 billion bushels and wheat about 938 million bushels.

A faulty damper blamed for a heater blaze in a tobacco shed on Eli Smucker’s farm near Mondamin Friday morning. No damage reported as Leacock Fire Co. extinguished the flame with Bareville and Leola fire brigades assisting.
