Land conservation plan urges farming only zones in county
A 40 page report on saving Pennsylvania farmland was handed to Gov Shafer. The Agricultural Land Conservation Plan proposes 4000 acre farming zones after public hearings. It would offer incentives and compensation for landowners who participate and for allowing hunting and fishing under watershed protections.

Milk referendum ballots counted in Pennsylvania dairy plan
Workers at the Department of Agriculture Building in Harrisburg counted more than 19 000 ballots on the milk marketing program for dairymen across Pennsylvania. About 22 500 eligible dairy farmers voted on a self assessment plan to fund advertising promotion and research to boost milk sales. It will take days to finalize as both yes no votes and individual milk production records are tabulated.
