Lancaster 4-H Baby Beef show claims reserve grand champion
Lancaster County earned the reserve grand champion steer at the Southeast District 4H Baby Beef Show held Wednesday at the Lancaster Union Stock Yards. The Hereford, 990 pounds, shown by Marvin Nissley for owner Nancy Frey, sold for 56 cents per pound to E W Martin for John Smucher’s Amish Village in Alten town. The grand champion steers, an Angus shown by Jim Wylie from Chester County, weighed 1105 pounds and sold for $1.14 per pound to Hershey Estates Abattoir and Hershey Motor Lodge. The auction totaled 39,742.43 dollars with 119,235 pounds and 954 pounds average per head.

Thirty-seven 4-H Steers to Harrisburg for Farm Show
Lancaster 4 H members and their steers were chosen to travel to the Pennsylvania State Farm Show in January after the county Baby Beef Roundup held Tuesday, the day before the District Show. The list includes Angus entries across light and medium weights with youths from Manheim Lititz Ephrata Strasburg and New Holland.

Neighbors Aid Harvest For late Kurtz Farm Corn
A group of neighbors and friends of the late John Kurtz gathered at his Elizabethtown area farm to harvest corn. Kurtz, an Agway representative and farmer, was killed in a motor vehicle accident. They used 21 wagons 5 elevators 3 portable generators and 6 trucks including a 40 foot tractor trailer and reportedly picked 150 tons of corn. Continued on page 11.

S W Group Says Thanks At Banquet
The Lancaster County Soil and Water Conservation Service held an informal recognition banquet at Meadow Hills Dining House on Thursday evening. County Commissioner Arthur Campbell Henry Hackman received a special service award plaque for leadership and guidance in planning the annual Pennsylvania Soil and Water Conservation District Directors Association meeting in Lancaster, November 8 to 10, 1967, and for four years of service promoting conservation in the county.
