4 H Club News Roundups and Teas Highlight Club Activities
Penn Manor Kookie Kooks invited parents to a roundup at Stedman’s Church pavilion on August 31 at 1 p m. A prior meeting at Penn Manor Junior High reviewed roundup needs led by Mrs Dull. Marie and Nancy Rocker demonstrated the basic four food groups. Conestoga Valley Swinging Stitchers H Club held a roundup and tea for mothers at Conestoga Valley Junior High School with judging by Mrs Paul Denlinger. First year prizes went to Marsha Herr and Brenda Smoker. third year to Diane Bare and Karen Landis. fifth year to Nancy Risser and Elaine Herr. Refreshments followed for attending mothers. A community project featured a program of piano selections and singing by 4-H members at the Moravian Home. The group then returned to the Bucher residence for a business meeting.

Strasburg 4-H Cooking Club Meeting Report
The Strasburg 4-H Cooking Club met on August 17 at the Hess home with nineteen members present. A demonstration on Good Grooming was given and members prepared peanut butter cookies and corn on the cob.

Hog cholera can be transmitted from pregnant sows study finds
ARS researchers report that hog cholera may spread from pregnant sows to unborn piglets. The discovery explains infection sources beyond direct contact and supports culling exposed hogs to eradicate the disease. S H Young and A Carbrey led the investigations at Ames lab, Iowa, using fluorescent antibody techniques to identify virus in baby pigs.
