Kreider Farm Hosts Large Scale Pennsylvania Potato Research
Noah Kreider and Sons of Manheim harvest nearly 200 acres of potatoes, with 24 acres devoted to research. Penn State University and the State Department of Agriculture join in an extensive long term program to study fertilization effects on processing quality and fertilizer needs of various varieties. Project leader Dr. Joseph D. Harrington says two one acre fertilizer plots and four acre variety plots are planted on a Dufheld silt loam field. PSU provides seed and fertilizer, Kreiders supply land and seedbed preparation.

Lancaster County Agricultural and Home Economic Extension Association expands its board to 21 members following a by law change approved at the annual meeting. Meats Judging Title To County FFA Member
In the area Future Farmers of America judging contest held Thursday afternoon at Kunzler and Company Lancaster first place went to Robert Ulrich of the Mannheim Chapter. Vocational agriculture teacher Jess Elway says Ulrich earned 407 of 500 points, leading a 24 youth field. Leroy Steiner of Red Lion was close behind with 4013 points and another York County boy Dean finished third with 392 points.
