A principle merger between Funk Bros Seed Co and Corn Products was announced this week by A N McFarlane of Corn Products and E D Funk of Funk Seed Co. The move aims to expand agricultural service through greater research and farmer benefits.
York County FFA won the tractor contest at Garden Spot High School with 320 points. Lancaster County entries placed second and third as York County competitors led by Jay Smoker and Clois.
Secretary of Agriculture Orville L Freeman said no change will be made in the 1967 feed grain program acreage diversion provisions and announced continuation of the program. Industry reps had urged larger feed grain acreage and supplies, but recent crop and moisture reports and farm grain stocks suggest production will be adequate.
Rural Life notes list events including a Sunday service at Stevens Hill Church of the Brethren at 7 30 pm on April 30. Ephrata High School seniors gain on the job experience through the Agri business Training Program launched last year by the agriculture department. The seven week period runs March 28 to May 12 with students studying mornings and working afternoons. Employers including Agway Inc and Diffendall Landscape Service welcome help as the program aims to teach managing an agriculture business and provide practical exposure before graduation.
Everett Newswanger reports how Lan caster County neighbors mobilized 15 tractors and 44 plows to plow 50 acres at Clair Kreider’s Quarryville farm in 2.5 hours. James Kreider, of the Mechanics Grove Church of the Brethren, organized the effort after Clair’s hospital stay, and nearly all volunteers answered the call.
