The American Dairy Association presents Hold High the Torch a film shown Friday at 8 p m May 5 at the Guern Sales Pavilion admission free. The screening runs alongside Winter pictures at Squaw ley and Rome with Track and Field events.
Lancaster County 4-H Council hosts the Spring Jamboree featuring rides games and a fashion show at Guernsey Pavilion on Lincoln Way East. Light and pony clubs offer free pony rides for 4-H members while booths and demonstrations run for all. Admission and favors provided to 4-H members.
The State Crop Reporting Service reports warm sunny days unlock delayed farm tasks across Pennsylvania. Peaches in the Berks-Lehigh region reach the pink stage while apples leaf out and the Apple Bloss om Festival is set for May 7 in Adams County.
The Conestoga Chapter American Business Club will host its annual chicken barbecue and festival on Saturday May 6 from 4 to 7 pm at East End Avenue and South Ann Street. Proceeds support the Boys Club Scholarship Fund. General chairman is Dr. Robert E. Humphreville. co chairman is William G. Parmer.
Harrisburg secretary of agriculture William L. Henning announced a pilot rear calf grading program at Mason-Dixon Livestock Market Stewartstown York County and at Chambersburg Livestock Auction Franklin County. State specialists grade calves at sellers request and sell graded calves in uniform lots. The voluntary program fees are paid by the marketing agency and detailed sale records will be kept.
Secretary of Agriculture William L Henning announced that Sullivan County and Bucks County have been declared Soil Conservation Districts, creating Pennsylvania's fifty third and fifty fourth districts. Formal recognition is expected at the next State Soil Conservation Commission meeting.
H C Gilmore of Pennsylvania State University announced after a meeting of the State Dairy Herd Improvement Association that DHIA work has reached a new all time high in Pennsylvania.
Three young partners Clair Hilsher Eugene Brown and Jacob High pooled assets to buy Hilbrady near Fairfield Drumore Township. From 79 cows on March 15 to 66 cows by late April the herd produced 3 700 pounds in a day, doubling prior output with ten cows sold and three dried off, all without adding new cows.
James Benedict son of Mr and Mrs Harold Benedict was elected president of the Manor chapter Future Farmers of America at the April 21 meeting at Penn Manor High School Benedict 18 will serve the 1961 62 term Other officers elected include vice president Glenn Hess secretary Harold Herr sentinel Nelson Habecker treasurer Millersville reporter Glenn My Lin and chaplain Glenn Shulz all from local townships.
The organizational meeting of the Donegal Home Ec 4-H Club was held Tuesday at 7 30 PM in the Donegal Fellowship Hall. Officers elected include President Ginny Wivell and Vice President Sylvia Ober with several others filling secretary treasurer song leaders game leaders and reporters. Local leaders are Miss Elizabeth Noll and Mrs Arline Forney among others.
Daniel L Terr, formerly of Quarryville, elected secretary of the Blair Huntington County Council of Farmer Cooperatives at a Hollidaysburg meeting. He has managed the Eastern States Farmers Exchange station at Curryville since last December and now lives in Roaring Spring. He is the son of Mrs Henrietta C Herr and the late Daniel H Herr of Peach Bottom R2. He married Cynthia Quigley of Georgetown.
Weather forecast for Saturday through Wednesday calls for temperatures about two to six degrees below normal. Daytime highs around 67 and nightly lows near 45. Cooler conditions prevail with a possible warmup by midweek. Rain totals may exceed significant fractions, with a split of precipitation expected late Sunday and again Wednesday.
